System upgrade in the StromNow app on March 11, 2026.

More Europe, more charging points, new pricing — and a major upgrade behind the scenes.

Updated this week

On March 11, 2026, we will carry out a system upgrade in the StromNow app. To ensure everything runs smoothly, the app will briefly enter maintenance mode. During this time, the app won’t be usable — charging will not be possible.

We’re upgrading core systems in the background so StromNow becomes significantly larger, more stable, and more powerful in 2026.

Important upfront: For you as a user, the look and day-to-day usage of the app will barely change — no worries. The biggest improvements happen “under the hood.”

1) StromNow becomes available across Europe - perfect for your summer

With this upgrade, StromNow will expand to all remaining European countries.
That means you can look forward to stress-free charging on your way to summer holidays - for example in Spain, Italy, or Croatia.

2) Coverage: from 500,000 to over 1,000,000 charging points

We’re massively expanding our charging network: from around 500,000 charging points to 1,100,000 charging points across Europe.

Many new partners will join — including additional operators, municipal utilities, and several larger, well-known DC fast-charging networks.

Easter egg: A particularly iconic fast-charging network that many of you have been asking for for a long time will also become available in StromNow after the upgrade. 👀⚡️

3) Pricing: new conditions, overall cheaper - still transparent & dynamic

We continuously work to deliver the best possible charging prices for you. Due to the system change, our purchasing conditions will change — and as a result, some prices will be adjusted.

What you can expect:

  • Overall, we’ll become cheaper.

  • Many new stations will be available in StromNow for the first time.

  • In a few cases, some stations may become a few cents more expensive - prices are openly and transparently available in the app.

Why we will continue to avoid flat, uniform pricing

Our prices depend strongly on the individual terms of each operator (CPO). Our sales prices are therefore based on the purchase prices we receive from each CPO for their infrastructure.

4) Better data quality & charging reliability

As part of this upgrade, we’ll also improve:

  • Data quality (e.g., status, availability, details)

  • Reliability of communication between the app and the charging station

  • Live data during charging sessions

  • and we’ll expand our charging monitor so you can see more relevant information while charging

And this is just the beginning - we have a long roadmap built on top of these new systems.

5) Billing: from monthly invoices to session-based billing

To keep StromNow safe, fair, and reliable, we’re also changing how billing works as part of the system upgrade.

Why are we making this change?

As the market grows, we unfortunately see increasing fraud — fake accounts, misuse, and invalid or stolen payment methods. To protect our community and reduce payment failures, we’re switching to session-based billing.

What does that mean in practice?

  • Previously: You received one monthly consolidated invoice covering all charging sessions.

  • New: We bill after each charging session.
Each session will be billed separately and documented accordingly.

Will I still receive invoices/receipts?

Yes. You’ll still receive all invoices and receipts transparently — clearly documented and available at any time.

Important for businesses & companies

For freelancers, businesses, and professional users, we know a monthly invoice keeps accounting effort minimal. That’s why we’re already working on offering a monthly consolidated invoice option again for business use.

Maintenance mode on March 11, 2026

To ensure the upgrade runs smoothly, the app will briefly enter maintenance mode on March 11, 2026. During this time, the app won’t be usable - charging will not be possible.

We’ll send separate push notifications with the exact time window so you can plan accordingly.

Important for your first login after the upgrade

  • Your profile will remain unchanged

  • Your charging cards will remain active

  • You will need to add your payment method again once

In some cases, you may also need to confirm your billing address again — especially if you use a Professional payment profile.
