In this article, you’ll learn why it’s always a good idea to carry an RFID charging card. Especially in situations where there are network disruptions or connection problems that can affect app-based charging.
Why Charging Problems Can Occur
The public charging network consists of many different Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and technical systems.
Occasionally, temporary outages or communication issues can occur that we at StromNow cannot directly influence, for example:
short-term server or network failures
maintenance work at charging stations
connection errors between the app, backend, or the charging point
When this happens, you may find that starting a charging session via the app doesn’t work immediately.
Why the RFID Charging Card Helps
Your RFID charging card acts as a reliable backup solution.
While the app relies on a stable network connection, the RFID card communicates directly with the charging station, allowing you to start a session even when the network is down.
That means:
Even during temporary system failures or connection problems, you can still start charging in most cases using your RFID card.
Simply hold your StromNow Mirror Card or Classic Card against the card reader on the charging station — the session will start instantly and locally, without needing an app connection.
This gives you maximum independence and reliability, even if the charging network isn’t fully available.
Our Recommendation
We recommend always keeping an active RFID charging card with you as a practical and secure backup.
That way, you can charge almost anywhere, even if:
the mobile network is weak,
the CPO reports a temporary issue, or
the app connection is interrupted.
Conclusion
With your StromNow RFID charging card, you stay ready to charge — even when network issues occur.
It allows you to start charging sessions directly and independently from the app or backend, ensuring you stay mobile at all times.
👉 If you don’t have one yet, you can order your StromNow Mirror Card directly in the Shop section of the app.
