Welcome to the Help Center!
In this article, you’ll learn how StromNow automatically detects your home electricity prices, when it makes sense to set your own, and what to consider before switching to a custom tariff.
Default: Automatic Electricity Prices
When you set up your home charging location in the StromNow app (for example, during the Smart Charging onboarding once your vehicle is connected), StromNow automatically uses live electricity market data to calculate your home charging costs.
These automatic prices are based on:
Your market area and grid region
Live electricity market data (e.g. via the Enode Tariff API)
Real-time updates that reflect current price levels
This ensures your home charging sessions are always calculated using the most accurate, transparent, and up-to-date pricing data available — ideal for Smart Charging and dynamic tariffs.
StromNow continuously updates these prices based on live market conditions, so you always benefit from real-time cost optimization without any manual setup.
Setting Your Own Electricity Prices (Custom Tariff)
If you have a fixed electricity price at home (for example, a constant kWh rate from your energy provider), you can manually enter your own price.
How to set a custom tariff:
Open the app and go to Me → My Home → Electricity Prices.
Switch from Automatic to Custom.
Enter your price per kWh (for example, 0.35 €/kWh).
⚠️ Important:
Once you switch to Custom, you cannot revert to Automatic pricing.
Make sure your home tariff is stable before changing — dynamic or time-based tariffs should remain on automatic.
When to Use “Custom” – and When to Stay on “Automatic”
Situation | Recommendation |
You have a fixed kWh price (e.g. 0.32 €/kWh constant) | ✅ Switch to Custom |
You have dynamic or time-based tariffs (peak/off-peak or hourly rates) | 🚫 Stay on Automatic |
Why Automatic Pricing Is Better for Dynamic Tariffs
StromNow’s automatic pricing system relies on live electricity market data and regional grid prices to calculate the true cost of your energy use.
This means StromNow can automatically detect when electricity is cheaper or more expensive, and adjust your Smart Charging schedule accordingly.
Because this data updates in real time, you’ll always charge at the most cost-efficient times without needing to change anything manually.
Conclusion
With StromNow, you can either use automatically detected market prices or set your own fixed home tariff — depending on your setup.
Our recommendation:
Stay on Automatic if you have a dynamic or variable tariff.
Switch to Custom only if you have a stable, fixed price per kWh.
👉 You’ll find this feature under:
