The StromNow App provides a detailed analysis of your climate impact for every planned route.
After creating a route, simply scroll down to the sections “Climate” and “Route Insights” to view your environmental data.
There, you’ll find a transparent overview of:
your estimated CO₂ emissions per trip,
the energy mix used for charging,
and your savings compared to a conventional combustion engine vehicle.
Our goal is to help you understand how your driving and charging choices positively impact the environment – clearly, accurately, and data-driven.
How We Calculate Emissions
Our emission model uses a multi-dimensional analysis to provide a realistic climate profile for each route.
1. Comparison with Combustion Vehicles (ICEV)
We show you how much CO₂ you save by driving an electric vehicle instead of a conventional internal combustion engine vehicle.
2. Operational Emissions
This includes the CO₂ intensity of the regional electricity mix used during charging.
Depending on whether your energy source is renewable or fossil-based, your carbon footprint will vary.
3. Vehicle Production & Recycling
We also include emissions from manufacturing and end-of-life recycling of electric vehicles, giving you a comprehensive and realistic climate balance.
Please note: Our climate analytics are currently in beta. We’re continuously refining our model to improve accuracy and precision.
How We Calculate Your Route
The StromNow routing engine takes multiple real-world factors into account to ensure accurate energy and emission estimates:
Topography: Elevation and gradient changes directly affect energy consumption.
Temperature: Extreme heat or cold impacts battery efficiency and range.
Road Conditions: Surface quality influences rolling resistance and energy use.
Charging Availability: Routes are optimized to balance charging time, cost, and energy efficiency.
The Data You’ll See
In the climate and route insights section, you’ll find the following key metrics and explanations:
Metric | Description |
ICEV (Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle) | Benchmark comparison to a traditional petrol or diesel vehicle |
CO₂eq (CO₂ Equivalent) | Standardized measure converting various greenhouse gases into CO₂ equivalents |
Emission Breakdown | Shares of emissions from electricity generation, vehicle production, and recycling |
Energy Mix | Composition of renewable vs. fossil sources used for charging |
Carbon Intensity | CO₂ emissions per kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed |
These insights help you better understand the environmental footprint of every trip and make informed, sustainable decisions about your driving and charging habits.
