In the StromNow app, we offer a detailed calculation of climate emissions for every planned route. After you have created a route, you can find this information by scrolling down to the "Climate" and "Route Insights" sections. There, you will receive a transparent overview of the CO₂ emissions from your trip, the energy mix used for the charging sessions, and potential savings compared to an internal combustion engine vehicle.
How We Calculate Emissions
Our model analyzes and calculates the emissions for each route based on various factors:
Comparison with an ICEV (Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle):
We show how much CO₂ is saved when the same distance is traveled with an electric vehicle instead of a conventional ICE vehicle.Operational Emissions:
We take into account the CO₂ intensity of the electricity mix in the region where you charge.Emissions from Vehicle Manufacturing and Recycling:
The production and eventual disposal of an electric vehicle also generate emissions, which are included in our calculations.
Please note that our entire climate section is currently in the beta phase, and we are continuously working to improve the accuracy of the data provided.
How We Calculate Your Route
The calculation of the best route takes into account several factors:
Topography:
Elevation changes and gradients affect energy consumption.Temperature:
Cold or hot temperatures influence battery consumption and, consequently, your range.Road Conditions:
The condition of the road surface can impact rolling resistance and energy consumption.Availability of Charging Stations:
The route is planned to optimally integrate charging opportunities.
What Data You See
In the climate overview, you will find the following information:
ICEV (Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle):
A comparison with a combustion engine vehicle.CO₂eq (CO₂ Equivalents):
A standardized unit that converts various greenhouse gases into their CO₂ equivalent.Emission Breakdown:
The share of emissions from electricity generation, vehicle manufacturing, and recycling.Energy Mix:
The composition of the energy source from which your vehicle was charged (e.g., renewable energies vs. fossil fuels).Carbon Intensity:
CO₂ emissions per kilowatt-hour charged.
With these insights, we aim to provide you with a transparent overview of the environmental impact of your journey. We are continuously working to refine our calculations and offer you even more precise insights.
